Omia

A quiet PDF viewer that also gets the text out

Omia opens PDFs on Mac or Windows in a clean view with nothing in the way. When you need the content elsewhere, it extracts the text or Markdown, or saves every page as an image — locally.

What you can do

What it doesn't do

We'd rather you know before downloading.

How to open PDF files

  1. Download Omia and install it (Mac or Windows)
  2. Double-click the PDF, or drag it onto the Omia window
  3. To get the text out, use Save As → Markdown or Text; for images, Save As → PNG pages

Why a local viewer

PDF-to-text websites want the document uploaded. Contracts, bank statements and medical letters shouldn't go there. Omia does the extraction on your own computer.

FAQ

Can I convert a PDF to text or Markdown?

Yes. Save As → Text or Markdown extracts the text. It works on PDFs that contain real text; scanned pages need OCR, which Omia doesn't do.

Can I annotate or sign PDFs?

No. Omia is a viewer for PDF.

Can I turn each page into an image?

Yes. Save As → PNG pages gives you a .zip with one PNG per page, up to the first 50 pages. For longer PDFs, the ZIP includes a README explaining this limit.

Is it free?

Viewing files is free forever, with no sign-up. Saving edits, converting, and opening pro formats (DWG, STEP, SketchUp, CorelDRAW) each come with 5 free uses; after that it's a one-time $19.90 licence, no subscription.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Omia opens and converts files on your own computer. Nothing is sent to a server or an AI service.
